- Panvita opened Slovenia’s most advanced greenhouse this week, enabling year-round, eco-friendly lettuce production with cutting-edge climate control and automation.
- The facility spans over 21,000 m², houses up to 4 million lettuce heads annually, and uses biodegradable materials for seedling cultivation.
- The total investment in the greenhouse amounted to approximately EUR 9 million.

Rakičan, Slovenia, April 22, 2025 – On Earth Day, Panvita Group began production at a newly built greenhouse in Nemščak, Prekmurje. Designed to support the year-round cultivation of leafy greens, the facility introduces modern agricultural technologies that help optimize growing conditions and resource use.
The launch of this greenhouse also marks one of the first major infrastructure projects completed following BOSQAR INVEST’s (BOSQAR d.d. – ZSE: BSQR) EUR 50 million investment in a majority stake in Panvita Group, which was finalized on November 5, 2024.
The greenhouse investment, amounting to roughly EUR 9 million, represents an important step in the realization of Panvita’s and BOSQAR’s plans outlined in 2024 for continued investments in infrastructure and expansion, as part of the groups's newly established Future Food vertical.
Advanced Design Enables Efficient, Year-Round Output
Spanning 21,360 square meters – approximately 2 hectares – the facility is equipped with movable growing channels and automated climate control systems. It has the capacity for 360,000 growing positions and 260,000 seedling positions.
Biodegradable paper is used in seedling cultivation, contributing to more sustainable practices. The greenhouse is expected to produce up to 4 million heads of lettuce annually.
Branko Virag, Managing Director at Panvita, commented:
“The start of production at our new greenhouse is a defining moment for Panvita. It fulfills the promise we made at the beginning of this investment – to lead in sustainable and innovative farming. This facility not only ensures year-round access to fresh, safe, and locally grown food, but also reduces import dependency, strengthens food security, and promotes self-sufficiency. We recognize our responsibility to both the environment and our community, which is why we invest in technologies that reduce our ecological footprint and deliver added value to Slovenian consumers.”
Founded over a century ago, Panvita is one of Slovenia’s largest agri-food companies and the country’s leading vertically integrated agricultural group. With more than 700 employees, Panvita cultivates over 3,500 hectares of farmland using cutting-edge equipment and adheres to agricultural and environmental climate programs.
Looking ahead, Panvita aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, expand its range of sustainably grown raw materials, and increase the use of recycled packaging to at least 75%. Through ongoing innovation and development, the company is strengthening its leadership in sustainable business.
Local, high-standard production, support for Slovenian agriculture, and a reduced reliance on imported food remain the cornerstones of Panvita’s operations.
